Goals for the week of 11/1-11/5

I have decided to write up my goals for the weeks so that I have record of what I intend to do!
For Big Mac I want to complete:
4 lessons in R&S English
her new spelling lists consisting of the str blends that she struggled with
Saxon/Horizons/MUS each day(1 or more) with a review quiz on Friday
Writing Strands-finish up the current lesson
Reading-complete Wilbur and Orville in LLATL including her journaling for every 2 chapters
Independent reading of Pippi-hoping to start Midnight Magic
WWE2 week 10

For Chickie:
Saxon/Horizons math-at least 10 lessons to advance her through first grade faster
Spelling-she is completing the last few words of level B in Spelling Power and ready for level C
Writing-she handles this herself with endless book making
Reading-finish up the current lesson in LLATL red
Independent reading of Ivy and Bean book 3-begin Magic Treehouse Knight at Dawn
WWE1 week 10

For both:
Next 2 Prima Latina lessons and another SS Latin lesson
Science-planet Earth this week including making little biosphere's in bottles
History-SOTW chapter 14 and then a jump forward to our until for Medieval Studies

These are lofty goals and allow for little wiggle room but I need a good rigorous week so that I can be ready to stop, drop, and hit Medieval times HEAVILY next week.

Homeschool science!

Okay admittedly I am NOT a science activity person, BUT I am trying to embrace my inner Janice Van Cleave! The first we did was to use bleach in water to bend light to capture the rainbow. Did manage to see all of the colors on paper we held up.
The second we did was the dry ice bubble blowing. Here is a pic of what was going on in the sink! Very cool I have to admit!

An American Girl Halloween!!

So somehow I got roped into an American Girl Halloween party at the last minute and I mean last minute. Dash to Joanne's!!
Here is what we ended up with:
Cookie pop decorating, Monster cupcake cake, pizza, fleece dresses with ribbon straps, black feather boas and accents, halloween buttons, and autumn wreath hair pieces. Not my best work but to make up for it I am planning a spectacular Christmas party!

Diving into blogging! Our first 2 months!

Whether this gets read by the outside world is a bonus at this point! I am starting this to simply track our progress and try to keep sight of the prize at the end of this homeschooling road! Years ago I thought homeschool families were just plain odd and unsocialized. Now I feel like I need to be in charge of what my kids learn and I have gotten tired of all the excuses for sub par teachers. Why accept that? Why chalk up a whole year of your child's life to a "learning experience"? For me the desire to teach is there so it was a no brainer to pull my girls out of a bad situation. The older boys are happy with public school as they will remain there as long as they want to. As for the little boys...well I am not sure what they will do. My current plan is to keep the youngest 4 out of school until college. Am I nuts? Sure. Can I do it? Sure, why not? I am smart, motivated, and passionate about them getting a better education than what is offered in public schools.
